Ph.D. Student in Experimental Psychology

Elise is pursuing a PhD in Experimental Psychology under the supervision of Dr. Mathieu Roy. Her research focuses on the impact of distraction from music and audiovisual material on pain perception, using fMRI, EDA and behavioral data to examine the underlying neural mechanisms. Elise completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Psychology at McGill. When not at the lab she can be found at the sewing machine or the easel. After her PhD, Elise would like to keep studying the brain but also combine her work with Neuroscience Art projects.

Post Doctoral Fellow

Philippe is a physiotherapist who earned his Ph.D. in Clinical and Biomedical Sciences from Université Laval in 2024. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Roy’s laboratory, where his research focuses on identifying nociplastic pain markers in individuals with chronic low back pain through brain imaging and quantitative sensory testing. In addition, he investigates the genetic determinants underlying placebo responsiveness, aiming to better understand interindividual variability in pain modulation.

Ph.D. Student in Clinical Psychology

Christiane is pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology under the supervision of Dr. Michael Sullivan and Dr. Mathieu Roy. Her research uses self-report psychometric measures to investigate cognitive-affective processes (i.e., catastrophic thinking, perceived injustice, subjective cognitive deficits) that contribute to chronic pain and disability. She is particularly interested in identifying longitudinal, transdiagnostic mechanisms that shape outcomes across chronic pain and psychological conditions, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Prior to McGill, Christiane earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Princeton University and spent several years working as a clinical research coordinator at the Systems Neuroscience and Pain Lab at Stanford University.
